Former judge couple Abdurrahim and Burçin Yavuz were sentenced to 6 years 3 months in prison on 24 December 2019
On 15 October 2019, Constitutional Court found inadmissible the individual application lodged by Aydin Sefa Akay, associate judge at the UN’s Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunal and retired ambassador. Convicted of being a member of armed terrorist organisation on the ground of using ByLock, he was sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison.
Akay was accused of the using ByLock e-message application which accepted as the means of communication by Gulenists. In addition to 7,5 years imprisonment, on 15 June 2017, first instance court has placed an international travel ban on Akay, which meant that he could not resume his work with the UNMICT (Ruanda genocide case). Akay lodged an individual application to Constitutional Court and resort his diplomatic immunity due to the fact that he was a UN judge. However, Constitutional Court dismissed his application reasoning that he had no diplomatic immunity in Turkey since he is a Turkish citizen and there was reasonable ground (ByLock) for his arrest.

Former woman judge Sevgi Seyhan was arrested after the Court of Cassation upheld her 7 years 5 months imprisonment on 27 November 2019. Her husband former prosecutor Yasin Seyhan was also sentenced to the same imprisonment and has been kept in prison.

Plenary Penal Session of the Court of Cassation upheld the 13 years imprisonment for former judge and member of Council of State Bülent Olcay on 1 November 2019. Olcay is known his protest against the statue which ended the “supreme court judge” status of then-supreme court judges. To protest this law, he had hanged his tog at the court window.

Court of Cassation upheld the 12 years imprisonment for former judge and deputy undersecretary of the Justice Ministry Kenan Özdemir on 27 October 2019.
Judge Kenan Özdemir, one of the top burocrats of Turkish judiciary was convicted of membership of an terrorist organization. In the indictment, the prosecutors seeked up to 15 years in prison over the terrorism charges. He was accused of lobbying against the bill in 2002 which had intended to signed the definition of unarmed terror organisations into law. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison over pretext of being a member of armed terror organisation on 29 December 2017. Özdemir has been kept in prison since July 2016.

Ali Kütük was member of Court of Cassation and Mehmet Çelik was member of Council of State. They have been kept in solitary confinement since July 2016.

Court of Cassation (Supreme Appeal Court) upheld the conviction (7 years and 6 months imprisonment) for former prosecutor Mehmet Ali Pekgüzel on 4 October 2019
Pekgüzel was in charge of Ergenekon (alleged deep state organisation) investigation while he was working for İstanbul Prosecution Office.
Pekgüzel’s wife Firdevs Pekgüzel died in a traffic accident in Ankara on her way to visit her husband in prison on 6 May 2019.
Pekgüzel has been kept in solitary confinement since July 2016 and he was not released although he had a heart attack while court hearing on 12 June 2019.
