Court of Cassation upheld the 12 years imprisonment for former judge and deputy undersecretary of the Justice Ministry Kenan Özdemir on 27 October 2019.
Judge Kenan Özdemir, one of the top burocrats of Turkish judiciary was convicted of membership of an terrorist organization. In the indictment, the prosecutors seeked up to 15 years in prison over the terrorism charges. He was accused of lobbying against the bill in 2002 which had intended to signed the definition of unarmed terror organisations into law. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison over pretext of being a member of armed terror organisation on 29 December 2017. Özdemir has been kept in prison since July 2016.
