Associazione Nazionale Magistrati (ANM) adopted the statement following the news on the death in detention of Teoman Gökçe, former member of the HSYK.
While expressing the Italian judges’ and prosecutors’ solidarity with his family and the Turkish colleagues still in detention or removed from their positions, the ANM asks the Italian and European institutions to intervene and urge Turkey to reestablish the rule of law.

“It is learned that in recent days, the colleague Teoman Gokce, a former member of the HSYK, died in the Sincan prison, the fourth judge who dies in a prison since 2016, detained following the heavy repression of President Erdogan’s government “.
ANM, once again, expresses “the strongest indignation for the dramatic story that is perpetuated in silence and violates the most basic democratic principles as well as human dignity”.
In expressing the proximity of the Italian magistrates to the family of the colleague Teoman Gokce and the entire Turkish judiciary, the ANM in a note calls for “the immediate intervention of Italian and international institutional bodies to induce the Turkish Government to respect human rights and restoration of legality “.
