Judge Dursun Ali Kurt, a distinguished Turkish jurist, passed away following a courageous battle with stage 4 soft tissue cancer.
In the aftermath of the 2016 coup attempt in Turkey, Judge Kurt faced significant adversity. He was dismissed from his position, endured five years of imprisonment, and later went into exile in Canada. Shortly after his release, he was diagnosed with advanced cancer, which he faced with remarkable resilience and faith.
Following the coup attempt, the Turkish judiciary underwent significant changes. According to reports, by May 2017, a total of 4,238 judges and prosecutors had been dismissed, and most of them were arrested.
